What is sovereign AI?
Sovereign AI means an organization or country controls its own AI: the models, the hardware they run on, and the data that flows through them, without depending on a foreign or outside provider. For a company, it usually means running open-weight models on infrastructure it owns, in a location it chooses.
The motives are data control, legal jurisdiction, resilience against a provider changing prices or terms, and the freedom to customize models.
Open-weight models make this possible: once downloaded, a model can run indefinitely on your own hardware, under your own rules.
